February is Love Your Library Month!
Kids love books and libraries. In fact, kids and libraries are made for each other! We at OC Libraries think children are very special, and once they get to know us, they think of the library as special too.
Mom took me to the library most Saturdays. As a result, my siblings and I have loved books, reading and libraries ever since. Libraries give me the 'warm fuzzies' and made me a life-long-learner with books as friends and teachers.
We hope you’ll visit your local Orange County Public Library with your children, and check out a few books to read aloud this month. Fostering a love of reading, books, and libraries helps your toddler or preschooler get ready for school and encourages academic achievement at all levels of education.
Check out our Website's Calendar for a children’s Storytime at your nearby branch. Enrich your child’s life with a visit to your library this month. They’ll love you for it!
Meanwhile, here are a few titles about books, readers and libraries on our shelves.
Otto the Book Bear by Katie Cleminson
Otto lives in a book. His favorite thing is ‘being read’ by children. Otto has a secret--he loves to explore places at night when nobody is 'reading' him. But what will he do when he returns to find his book-home gone? He sets out on an adventure to find a new home.
Library Lion by Michelle Knudsen
Lion visits the library, but can he follow the rules? Lions can’t help but roar! This lion saves the librarian and learns that sometimes you just can’t be quiet.
Look! A Book! by Bob Staake
Readers will love the rhyming text directing them to hunt for pictures on each page.
A wonderful, whimsical picture book!
We are in a Book! by Mo Willem (Elephant & Piggie Series)
Elephant and Piggie are best friends. When they realize that they are featured in a book, they are so excited that they get pretty silly. Kids will love to laugh with these two delightful characters.
